Terms of use
Last updated October 15, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Backmiles for using the Backmiles app and website. By using them you agree to these terms and our privacy policy. If you use Backmiles for a business, you agree on behalf of that business.
What Backmiles does, and doesn't
Backmiles helps you record drives and produce mileage logs. It detects drives using your phone's sensors, which can miss or misjudge drives (for example when a battery saver pauses the app). Imported drives are only as complete as the file you import. Values shown use the IRS standard mileage rate as an estimate.
Backmiles is not tax, legal or accounting advice. You are responsible for checking your records and for what you claim. Please review your log before you rely on it.
Your account
- You must be at least 16 and give a working email or sign-in.
- Keep your sign-in secure; you're responsible for activity on your account.
- One person per account. Don't use Backmiles to track someone without their knowledge or permission.
Plans and billing
- Free: 100 miles a month. Drives past that are recorded and kept but locked until you upgrade.
- Pro: $10 a month or $96 a year (US prices); extra drivers $6 a month or $57.60 a year each. Your store may show local prices and tax.
- Subscriptions are sold through the Apple App Store or Google Play and renew automatically until cancelled in your store account. The store's terms apply to payment, renewal and refunds.
- Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for. See how to cancel or request a refund.
- We may change prices for future periods with notice through the store and the app.
Teams
An owner can invite drivers to a business. Owners and admins can see and manage drivers' business drives and see totals for their personal drives, as described in the app and our privacy policy. Owners are responsible for giving drivers any notice the law requires and for using drive data lawfully. When a driver leaves, business drives stay with the business as its records.
Your data
Your drives and content are yours. You give us permission to store and process them only to run Backmiles for you and your team. You can export or delete them in the app. We don't sell your data.
Acceptable use
- No reverse engineering, scraping, overloading or attempting to access other people's data.
- No false records intended to mislead a tax authority, employer or anyone else.
- No use that breaks the law or others' rights.
Optional AI features
Some Pro extras use an AI model to suggest purposes, draft notes or explain a sort. Suggestions can be wrong; check them before you rely on them.
Availability and changes
We work to keep Backmiles running but can't promise it will always be available or error-free. We may change or stop features; if we stop the service, we'll give reasonable notice and a way to export your data.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, Backmiles is provided “as is”, and our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before it. We aren't liable for indirect losses, such as a deduction you didn't claim or a tax assessment. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer laws that can't be waived.
Ending
You can stop using Backmiles and delete your account any time. We may suspend accounts that break these terms, and will tell you why unless the law prevents it.
Law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws stated in the final version of this document (to be confirmed in legal review). Questions: support@backmiles.com.
